McCain has a thing for good looking women; note wife No. 2 and his interests in female lobbyists. And Palin is a lot hotter than some say like Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Reader after reader said that the base was now energized. You would have thought the base was energized by being in a war. If not, perhaps we need a new base. -- Rick Brookhiser

Even Alaskans realize Palin isn't cut out to be VP; and for a 72-year old
cancer surviving President? Palin's major qualification is that she's
female. Republicans are playing identity politics with this one; I
don't think it will work.

Even Alaska's Republican state senate president doesn't think Palin is ready.

From the Anchorage Daily News:

The reaction wasn't so rosy elsewhere. State
Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone
called her at 6 a.m. to tell her the news.

"She's
not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice
president or president? said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown
of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do
to the nation?"

Even if McCain made more points and left a generally better impression with the audience than Obama, and I'm not saying he did, Obama won. The appearance with and the cordial treatment by Rick Warren made Obama look like someone at least some evangelicals could vote for. The Religious right leaders of the past would have never given Obama a neutral platform to answer questions in; they simply tried to demonize the candidate they disagreed with.

Can you see Jerry Falwell giving Al Gore a forum like this?

"He's such a
boring guy that a little pizzazz may help him," said Darlene Ewing,
chairwoman of the Dallas County Democratic Party.
